Snow, Ice, and Safe Deliveries: What You Can Do to Prepare for Winter

December 10, 2025

Winter is here, and we’re ready to help you stay comfortable.

As temperatures drop across the region, now is the perfect time to check a few important items off your seasonal to-do list. These quick reminders will help ensure your home heats safely and efficiently all winter long.

DELIVERY & TANK ACCESS

  • Please clear driveways and pathways to propane tanks and oil fill pipes.
  • Salt & sand to avoid icy driveways so our trucks can safely deliver.
  • Mark your underground tank with a brightly colored flag or stake.
  • Sign up for Automatic Delivery. If you’re still checking your gauge and calling for fuel, this is the season to switch. Automatic Delivery helps prevent runouts and keeps your home warm without the guesswork.

SAFETY REMINDERS

  • Blocked vents can cause dangerous carbon monoxide buildup. After each storm, check for drifting snow around vents and exhaust pipes.
  • Check your CO & Smoke Detectors. Cold weather means your heating system is working harder. Make sure alarms are installed, functioning, and have fresh batteries.
  • Know the location of your propane tank’s emergency shut-off valve and how to turn it off in case of an emergency. If you suspect a leak, turn off the gas supply, leave the building and immediately call 911 and Proulx.
  • Have us install a free Remote Tank Monitor. For added peace of mind, our tank monitor service keeps an eye on your fuel level 24/7 and alerts us when it’s time for a delivery.
  • Designate someone to monitor your home while you are away.

WINTER WEATHER PREP CHECKLIST

Before a winter storm hits:

  • Charge all devices and backup batteries
  • Have flashlights with extra batteries ready.
  • Snowmelt, sand or kitty litter for icy steps.

  • Keep a roof rake on hand to safely remove heavy snow from roofs to prevent ice dams.
  • Open under-sink cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate.
  • Stock up on essentials-yes, that means bread & milk!
  • Blankets & extra layers ready.
  • Medications refilled ahead of time.
  • Make sure pets have a warm space.
